The year is relatively new, and what we have set out to achieve is still fresh in our minds like the morning dew. The belief at the moment, I would imagine is strong. What is ours is ours and will be ours. We are just waiting on the time and day, to inherit our birthright.
After coming back home from the open country, this young hunter was famished. His brother had prepared a meal so he asked if he could have some. Actually it was more of a demand than a request; this fatal hunger had to be dealt with quick. The cook, his brother had a condition, that he sells his birthright so as to get some food. Since the young hunter felt that this hunger was about to kill him, he wondered what good is a birthright to a dead man. So he swore an oath, selling his birthright over to his brother for a meal.
If this story is discussed, some will sympathise with the young hunter, because he was manipulated when he was most vulnerable. Some though would say that he should have been stronger and not given up such an important right for a meal. No matter what side you are on, we can all agree that something was lost that day, never to return.
What have you lost because of a moment of weakness? What have you delayed because of your vulnerabilities?
We usually have the goals in our minds ever so clearly. What we sometimes blur is the path to receiving what is meant for us.
Coming back from hunting, the young hunter might have been empty handed. This is the case sometimes; we come back empty, frustrated, tired and hopeless. One way we can endure this discouragement and humiliation is to remember how important the mission we set out to do is. If the birthright was valued, wouldn’t he have endured the hunger? Call it destiny; I call it God’s will. When we value what God had planned for us, we will fight for it, and nothing can come in between us and that divine appointment.
As we labour, time shines a light on the obstacles and loop holes. They might be things we love like friends, or things we refuse to quit in the form of habits. Sacrifice is so important, especially in the transactional world we live in. You must give certain things and let go of some to get certain results. Sacrifice is a divine principle; God gave His only son to die for our sins, a beloved son for the price of restoration of a broken relationship. Jesus Christ gave His life, for our sins; his life for the price for an eternal inheritance. It is inevitable that we will have to sacrifice an arm and a leg, to succeed.
At the end of the story, it says, “So Esau despised his birthright.” Esau, who is the hunter in the story, despised something that should have brought him a sense of pride.
Self-esteem would seem to be an obvious trait we must have, but is not always the case. We sometimes don’t have faith in our abilities, rather God given abilities. This could have the devastating effect of us despising who we are, and getting stuck, not having the will to move or the belief that we can get going. The circumstances that we find ourselves in might convince us that this temporary situation is who we are and is here to stay.
Don’t get sucked in this monstrous cycle and if you do there are ways you can get off it. One way is have a strong sense of identity, through knowledge of what God put you on this earth to be. These answers are found in His word, He gives his wisdom freely. Another way is through those who are around you. When our energy is low, we can be recharged through those who are closest to us. And lastly, we get guardian angels, a stranger we have never met, people we rarely talk to who helps us out. It might be through a random blog you read or a small message written on a bumper sticker that gives you the kick-start you were dying for. We also have the option of seeking professional help to move us past our psychological hurdles.
Self-respect much like self-esteem is about knowing our worth. If our young hunter knew his worth, would he have sold it for a meal? If we know the importance we hold to our Creator, then we would hold on to certain principles, and not only hold on but have a grip as a tick would have, sucking to survive. Our dreams and goals depend on it.
“Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the Kingdom.” Luke 12:32. Have you lost something that was meant for you? Do not despair, a great wealth has been made available for you, and Jesus Christ who sacrificed his life willingly, has redeemed those who believe. We must regain what we’ve lost and inherit what is ours.
I have had those moments that i almost made a bad decision due to momentary weakness. But now i can say with so much confidence that am glad i didn't.
